Adding cabinets above toilets are an easy and quick way to add much-needed closed storage to bathrooms. I added over toilet cabinets in the primary bathroom as well as the kid’s bathroom. These were both fairly low-cost cabinets, made from leftover supplies from other projects.
Both cabinets were built using 3/4″ plywood (since they are in areas with a high amount of moisture) and constructed using wood glue and pocket hole screws. The doors for both were built prior to purchasing my beloved Bosch router and fancy bit set. They are made out of 1×3 select pine and 1/4″ plywood inset on the back using a rabbet and wood glue.
The primary toilet cabinet was installed first, followed quickly thereafter by the kid’s bathroom cabinet.

To keep the look consistent, I used a crisp white paint and gold knobs. There is a little cubby underneath the doors where we keep back-up toilet paper and eventually will be styled.
Prior to installing this cabinet, we had a small cabinet from a big box store and while it was fine. Going with a custom cabinet allows for much more storage and better fits the space in terms of style and use.

My kid’s bathroom is tight, and this cabinet added a ton of necessary storage. We stash extra shampoo, soap, bath bombs, toilet paper, bath toys, you name it. Things are tucked away off the floor and tub ledge. Adding the knobs will forever be one of my favorite parts of building cabinets, and these took the cake with their sweet whimsy.
These two spaces were on my list of all the things that needed completing before baby boy arrived. Having dedicated areas to keep all of the chaos organized made my brain feel so much more calm going into my third and fourth trimesters with our little guy.
